Inside a Dr’s Skincare Regime
Founder and Medical Director Chloë Butler reveals her AM and PM skincare regimes
AM
“I don’t actually cleanse in the morning, because I clean my skin before bed. When I wake up I rinse with warm water and use my Resorè flannel. Resorè work to make your skin goals easier to achieve thanks to their natural antibacterial fibres. My morning regime is centred around shielding my skin from the elements (UVA, UVB, pollution and free radicals etc) and boosting my moisture levels.
First up, I massage a few drops of SkinCeuticals C E Ferulic Serum, it’s bursting with 15% Vitamin C and safeguards my skin. Once that has soaked in I apply Medik8 Hydr8 B5 Liquid Rehydration Serum which is literally a pint of water for my skin. It is intensely hydrating and provides the perfect canvas for make-up.
We talk about SPF a lot for a reason, and with a lot of our treatments geared towards achieving an even, flawless complexion it is the perfect accompanying product. My personal favourite is Ultra Facial Defense SPF 50 by SkinCeuticals which is a broadspectrum SPF protecting against all rays from the sun including invisible rays from computers and radiation that are the biggest cause of ageing and skin cancer. As with all of my skincare, I apply it on my face, take it down onto my neck and décolletage and I always apply my SPF onto the tops of my hands to keep age spots at bay. This particular SPF leaves you with an amazing glow.”
PM
“There is something so therapeutic about washing the day off my skin, especially after a busy day in the clinic. SkinCeuticals do a lovely Gentle Cleanser which is brilliant for dry, sensitised skin thanks to the orange oil and emollients. I apply it all over my face and neck and remove it with my Resoré flannel. If I’m wearing more make-up than normal I would double cleanse, but most days once is enough.
Once my skin is clean I massage in SkinCeuticals Triple Lipid Restore 2: 4: 2 which contains 2% ceramides, 4% cholesterol and 2% fatty acids. This is particularly good for me as I like a really heavy night cream due to my dry skin but it’s also brilliant for anyone who uses retinol regularly or for ageing skin. I love the feel, it glides over my skin making the application a breeze! It’s lightweight in texture but heavyweight in results; anti-ageing, plumping, hydrating and evening. Then, using my ring finger and a light dabbing motion on my under-eye area, I apply SkinCeuticals (yes, I am a HUGE fan of the brand!) A.G.E. Eye Complex to reduce the appearance of crow’s feet, dark circles and puffiness. I really put this eye cream to the test after long days in the clinic (plus, I have twins!) and it really does target the visible signs of ageing. If I’m not too tired I will spend a few minutes pressing the cream in firmly outward along my eyebrows, then inwards underneath the eyes and towards the bridge of my nose. This gets my blood circulation going and boosts lymphatic drainage for less puffiness and more wide-awake vibes.” TIP “I keep my pot in the fridge for added cooling benefits.”

My bedside table essentials…
I spray… Votary Pillow Spray Lavender and Chamomile (I love this ethical, vegan brand) on my bedsheets, really focusing on my pillow. Votary use high quality, long lasting oils. The relaxing blend of lavender, rose and chamomile essential oils calms my mind and body for a good night’s beauty sleep.
I apply… Amanda Harrington Ultra Balm Universal Rescue Cream keeps my hands, elbows, lips, knees and cuticles (anywhere that needs a little TLC) hydrated and happy. I know I’ll wake up happy that I made the effort to repair my hands overnight! It contains sweet almond oil which not only contains antioxidants, but it also smells delicious.
I read… I couldn’t be without my Kindle and love nothing more than getting into bed for a spot of page turning. It’s my little bit of much-needed selfcare and one of the best ways I feel I can unwind. My current read is Matt Haig’s The Midnight Library.
