Eighth and Eden meet with Harry Willis a Warwickshire based personal trainer.
Personal training has given him wealth of understanding the needs and importance of incorporating fitness in to our daily lives for health and wellbeing.
Why Should We Pay Attention To Our Core?
Everyone wants a strong core, whether it’s for the aesthetic of looking great on the beach or to move well and be stronger for longer. Building your core strength will improve your posture, relieve backache, help you perform other exercises more efficiently plus core exercises burn calories so are key to keeping weight stable. By moving in different planes of motion, rotating and holding isometrically we can work the core with out needing to do endless situps.
How Often Do You Recommend To Practice These Exercises?
10 minutes a day for 30 days will see improved tone and strength.
What Do You Need For These Exercises?
A resistance band
Yourself
Comfortable clothes
10 minutes of time daily
Kneeling Press – Press 3×15 reps each side
Using a resistance band attached at chest height to your side. Hold the band in both hands with tension in the middle of the chest. Press forwards whilst maintaining hips and shoulders facing forward. This is an anti-rotation movement so keep your core tight.
TOP TIP: Loop your resistance band around a sofa leg or chair.
Plank Shoulder Tap – Three rounds
In a high plank position with your feet, a little wider than hip-width for stability. Bring one hand from the floor to the opposite shoulder. The goal is to maintain your weight centred and little to no rocking in the hips from side to side. Repeat alternate hands for 30s – 60s.
Boatpose Flutter Kick – Try 30 seconds for 3 rounds
If you’re a yogi you might recognise this one. Keeping feet together raise them off the floor and maintain a back position around 45 degrees to the floor behind. Your hands can be extended in front alongside the legs. Keeping legs extended, drop alternate heels toward the floor
